A delicious and creamy potato bake layered with cheeses and seasoned to perfection.
Ingredients

- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 1/2 cups heavy cream
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
- 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
- 1 1/2 pounds Russet potatoes, peeled and sliced 1/8 inch thick
- 1 1/2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Romano or Parmesan cheese
- Chopped parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F. Butter a small baking dish and set aside.
- In a saucepan over medium heat, melt butter and sauté onions until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add garlic and cook for another minute.
- Stir in cream, salt, black pepper, cayenne, nutmeg, and mustard. Simmer for 2-3 minutes, then remove from heat.
- Layer half the potatoes in the baking dish. Pour over half the cream mixture and sprinkle with half of both cheeses.
- Repeat with remaining potatoes, cream, and cheese.
- Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Uncover and bake for another 15-20 minutes or until golden brown and bubbly.
- Let rest for 10 minutes before serving. Garnish with parsley if desired.
