Description

A delicious and creamy potato bake layered with cheeses and seasoned to perfection.


Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 1/2 cups heavy cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
  • 1 1/2 pounds Russet potatoes, peeled and sliced 1/8 inch thick
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Romano or Parmesan cheese
  • Chopped parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F. Butter a small baking dish and set aside.
  2. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt butter and sauté onions until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add garlic and cook for another minute.
  3. Stir in cream, salt, black pepper, cayenne, nutmeg, and mustard. Simmer for 2-3 minutes, then remove from heat.
  4. Layer half the potatoes in the baking dish. Pour over half the cream mixture and sprinkle with half of both cheeses.
  5. Repeat with remaining potatoes, cream, and cheese.
  6. Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Uncover and bake for another 15-20 minutes or until golden brown and bubbly.
  7. Let rest for 10 minutes before serving. Garnish with parsley if desired.
