Description

A hearty cabbage and ground beef casserole perfect for family dinners.


Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 1 orange bell pepper, chopped (optional)
  • 1 head cabbage, chopped
  • 28 ounces crushed tomatoes

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350ºF (175ºC).
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook until browned. Drain any excess grease.
  3. Season ground beef with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Stir in onion and orange bell pepper (if using) and cook for 2 minutes.
  4. Add cabbage and crushed tomatoes. Stir to combine. Cover and cook for 5 minutes.
  5. Transfer to a greased 9×13 casserole dish. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove foil and bake for 15 more minutes. Serve.

Notes

  • This dish can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 days before baking.
  • Feel free to add other vegetables such as carrots or zucchini for added nutrition.
