Description
Delicious homemade buttermilk biscuits that are golden brown and flaky.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 3/4 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 1/4 cups full-fat buttermilk (cold)
- 10 tablespoons unsalted butter (melted, divided)
Instructions
- Adjust the oven rack to the middle position and preheat the oven to 450°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and lightly grease it with cooking spray.
- Place the flour, baking powder, sugar, salt, and baking soda in a large bowl and whisk to combine.
- Place the buttermilk and 8 tablespoons of warm melted butter in a small bowl and stir until the butter forms small clumps and the mixture looks curdled (you should see bits of butter throughout).
- Add the buttermilk mixture to the flour mixture and stir gently with a rubber spatula just until the ingredients are incorporated and the mixture pulls away slightly from the edges of the bowl.
- Using a greased 1/4-cup measure, scoop the dough onto the prepared baking sheet, 1 inch apart.
- Bake for 15 to 17 minutes, rotating the pan once halfway through, until the tops are golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and brush with the remaining 2 tablespoons melted butter. Serve warm.
Notes
- For extra flaky biscuits, do not overmix the dough.
- Serve with jam or gravy for a delicious breakfast option.
